Full Stop

In the summer of 2018 I was deployed with a disaster assessment response team to several different disasters over the hurricane season.  Alongside the damage to homes, parks, and infrastructure, I kept noticing warning signs of all kinds.  Not only were they placed specifically for storm damage but existing ones ended up fitting the scene as well.  Four-way stop signs became a warning for fallen trees and flooded roads instead of traffic.  Often on disaster deployments I find myself coming to a full stop, reflecting on the situation I'm in, what I'm grateful for, and what impact one storm and one person can have.  Photos included are from flooding in Hidalgo County, Texas where the desert area received more than their annual rainfall in fourteen hours and New Bern and Pollocksville, North Carolina in the wake of Hurricane Florence.
